Preparing your home for the festive season

With the festive season around the corner, you’ve probably got a few gatherings planned. Not only is there the food to consider but your home and its décor should be a priority too. For those who are house proud and enjoy creating welcoming spaces, now’s your time to shine! The holidays provide the perfect chance to bring people together in beautiful areas around then home. Which ones should you be focussing on? We’ve got the inside scoop below…

  1. The guest room/s

Over the holidays, you’re bound to have at least one person spend a night or two. It’s what getting together is all about. Many of us don’t give our spare rooms the love that they deserve. Instead, they’re often dumping grounds for old décor pieces that we’ve grown tired of. Why not revamp your guest room with some new scatters, a rug or some side tables and lamps? Even a piece of art or a cleverly placed mirror can make a big difference. Perhaps rearranging the positioning of the bed will also help breathe new life into an uninspiring guest room.

  • The kitchen

Although it’s not an area for entertaining, it’s certainly where people gather in a home. It’s a hub of activity as you (or other family members) prepare delicious meals for your guests. Make this a visually interesting room in the home by adding pops of colour through indoor plants, potted herbs or even something as simple as a bowl of lemons. Continue the colour with dish towels and even a curated display of cookbooks and candles.

  • The patio/outdoor area

You just can’t beat summer in South Africa, especially over the festive season. Make the most of your outdoor entertainment areas with stylish yet practical updates that make your guests feel at home. From new scatter cushions to a few occasional chairs and even a bar trolley, there’s so much you can do to boost the appeal of the outdoors. Plus, a gin or mimosa bar on wheels is an absolute summer staple.

  • Your guest loo

Now, this is a room where you can really be bold! It’s also an ideal spot for some wallpaper or quirky décor like candle holders and funky hand towels. As a space that your guests will enter into frequently, why not ensure it makes a statement? We love the idea of a detailed mirror above a vanity with some amazing scented diffusers or candles. If you have the space, a wall light or even a hanging pendant light could add some extra interest.
